[ The 1st 14,000 miles ] [ Another 19,000 miles ] [ And Cape Horn ]
 |
After returning from Whangarei, New Zealand,
Loquax's next long voyage is already in mind...a return trip to Europe, via Cape Horn.
This trip of some 12,000 miles will hopefully allow time to stop in Tierra del
Fuego, to explore the wildlife and the dramatic environments of one of Earth's
most spectacular regions. With Carnival in Rio not falling till early March,
there should be time for a quick visit to the remote island of South Georgia to pay
homage to one of his greatest heroes. Ernest Shackleton, the subject of
the recent BBC television film, was buried in South Georgia just a few years
after his incredible expedition to Antarctica. What better way to
acknowledge such a man?
Rounding off with a
quick visit to the Norwegian town of Hammerfest, 9000 miles away and well inside
the Arctic Circle, Peter expects to arrive back in England about seven months
after leaving New Zealand.
